I was lucky enough to offer this accessibility testing workshop in Portland at 24NTC and the 2024 Washington State Nonprofit Conference. It got rave reviews, and so I’m really hoping to do it again in Detroit. Unlike a lot of other sessions, it is very hands-on and entirely focused on teaching folks to test their own websites so they can DO SOMETHING about accessibility!
According to the last WebAIM Million report, the average .org website contained an average of 38 accessibility errors that could be determined through automated testing. The tests I teach in the workshop catch even more errors than those. So it should go without saying that this workshop is evergreen.

The other presentation I’d be interested in giving is a quick-fire series of questions that organizations can use to prepare for a redesign.
These questions build buy-in, manage change, focus priorities, and just generally prepare everyone for a successful project. Every year, I see lots of RFPs and potential clients who aren’t really ready to start but already have a committed budget and deadline. I dream of a world where nonprofits have the internal knowledge and capacity to get ready for a successful website project before they reach out to vendors.
Over the years, I’ve used a staff questionnaire and some early project discovery questions that make a huge difference in improving project outcomes. I’d love to share some of those with a wider audience in a quick, 30 minute sessions.
