I’ll be speaking twice next week at free events about WordPress for nonprofits. If you or someone you know would benefit from these talks, please spread the word!
Accelerate LGBT: March 15, 2016
From their website:
Automattic and Google are partnering with local LGBT based nonprofits and businesses to support the LGBT community. All events are free and focused on helping these nonprofits and businesses accelerate their web presence…
I’ll be speaking about the basics of web accessibility and why it’s so important. It will be similar to the talks I gave last year at WordCamp Seattle, but less WordPress-specific and with even more interesting examples of assistive technology. There are lots of other talks about Google products and WordPress as well as 1-on-1 support sessions with experts from both companies.

501 Talks Tech: An Introduction to WordPress: March 17, 2016
Thursday, I’ll be at 501 Commons with Mike Brogan showing off the very basics of WordPress for those who have yet to use it or are just getting started. Here’s how we’re pitching it:
Are you considering using WordPress for your organization? This training will illustrate the benefits of WordPress and walk you through valuable WordPress features.
WordPress is a content management system (CMS) for building websites that powers 25 percent of the Internet. It’s a great option for nonprofits of all sizes and budgets. This presentation will cover the basics of what WordPress is, why you might use it, and the first steps for setting up a brand new website. If you’re interested in WordPress but have never used it, this is the presentation for you.
We’ll be demoing WordPress live during the class, so we hope it will be an engaging introduction for those with little-to-no WordPress knowledge.

Bonus: WordPress Grand Meetup is Back
The evening of March 15 also brings back the much-requested Big Seattle WordPress meetup. This is a great event to meet prospective clients to work with or consultants to help you, and includes everyone from beginners to hobbyists to WordPress contributors. It’s the same day as Accelerate LGBT, but I’m hoping to be there!
