I don’t know that I’ve ever done a full rundown of my public WordPress plugins—those on WordPress.org and/or Github—and now is as good a time as any. I’m going to slowly run them all through the new Plugin Check plugin to make sure they’re in tip-top shape.
As a fun little feature of my resume, there is a live count of active sites using one of my WordPress.org plugins. The number’s been going down, but the feature is fun!
These are very roughly listed in order of release, and I’m linking to Github everywhere possible and WordPress.org if a plugin isn’t up there (yet).
Active
I have both some new plugins as well a few that haven’t been updated in a long time because they don’t need any updating because they work just fine. You’ll notice that I tend to prepend “MRW” on plugins that are fairly opinionated and largely for my own use.
MRW User Last Login
My newest plugin on Github. I’m aiming for this to be another “works and doesn’t need any attention” plugin. I have one relatively minor feature to add and then it may become feature complete and put on autopilot.
Accessibility Add-on for FacetWP
This is one of my least-polished and more niche plugins, but it’s one that I’m hoping might actually attract contributions from other developers. I have two already who have expressed at least a bit of interest.
Enhanced Embed Block for YouTube
My newest plugin. I need to update the version of lite-youtube it uses, but it’s otherwise in great shape! Some day, I’ll almost certainly add at least Vimeo support, but I’m eager to not make this plugin too unwieldy or overly dependent on 3rd-party libraries I don’t control.
MRW Card Block
This is a way of creating a “card design” that extends the WordPress default Media & Text block. It adds a aspect ratio setting that I’ve found very useful. It ran into an issue in WordPress 6.7 that I quickly fixed, and it’s otherwise an increasingly common plugin I use on my own sites.
MRW Accordion
An expand/collapse block for WordPress (not a true accordion, I know) that supports better accessibility via allowing headings for the expand/collapse button. I think this one needs a bit of love when I can get to it, but it still does what it says it does on the label.
MRW Simplified Editor
At this point, this is my oldest consistently updated plugin, as it requires fairly constant tending to stay up-to-date with latest WordPress features, and I use it on almost every site I build. It needs some attention to resolve a few small bugs, but it’s in very solid shape.
Hawaiian Characters
Built for a client and maintained for the few folks who rely on it. I’m pleased to see usage is up to “40+ sites” which I think is an all-time high!
Post Type Archive Descriptions
An oldie-but-goodie that I use on many sites and hasn’t needed work in ages. I love a good single-purpose admin-focused plugin that does one job and does it well.
Post Type Menu Items
Another plugin that needs no maintenance! I’m still using this on my own site and the occasional site I build, and it works as I built it…checks…13 years ago 😱
Purgatory / Abandoned
The two most popular plugins I build are essentially dead now. And while their download counts are down, they are still bigger than all my other plugins.
Feature a Page Widget
In many ways, this is a predecessor to my Card Block plugin (see above) and another plugin I’ve just recently built for a client project. At its peak, it was on 20,000+ sites and was—in my book—the best-in-class widget for what it did. But the widgets interface has run its course, and I haven’t used it for years. It’s probably time to wind down this plugin.
ACF Repeater Collapser
Another niche plugin-for-a-plugin that was on 10,000+ sites at its peak. I handed maintenance of this plugin to someone else years ago, but it still deserves a honorary place on this list.
WP Inline Access
This was always just a proof-of-concept, though it did generate some interest and discussion. I do think it was slightly ahead of its time, but now isn’t particularly relevant to where WordPress is going. I’m going to request to close this plugin, now that it truly has no public purpose.
Still a Joke
CarrotPress
Still silly. Still works.
