Communities In Schools of Washington, represents thirteen affiliates throughout Washington State that work to help students stay in school. Communities In Schools of Washington came to MRW Web Design looking to overhaul their aging network of sites.
“Mark possesses a unique combination of technical expertise and interpersonal skills, which is particularly valuable for helping a not-so-technically-inclined client like me navigate unfamiliar terrain.”
Redesigning CISWA.org required balancing the needs of a network working toward the singular goal of reducing the dropout rate with the unique communities in which each affiliate works. Planning work was supported by a partner from the Seattle Social Venture Partners. Using WordPress Multisite, we combined large photographs and unique affiliate colors to showcase each organization’s work while still presenting a unified vision crafted by the national organization with groups in over 25 states.
Written and visual documentation supports the site in the long term along with a three-hour training given to every Executive Director. Working closely with the Public Relations and Marketing Manager from the statewide office, a “train the trainer” approach led to the independent training of additional staff from every affiliate.
Moving forward, each organization has a solid foundation of well-organized information about their organization on which to build over the coming years and the skills to do it themselves. In particular, a new blog-like News & Events system promises to drastically improve the way site visitors learn about and follow their local Communities In Schools.
