The Iowa Flood Center’s (IFC) previous site, though built on WordPress, proved hard to administer for staff and hard to use for visitors. I assisted IFC over a year to identify feature needs, develop a clean and welcoming aesthetic, and generate the necessary content for a website used by the general public, professors, and students.
The website includes a People directory, Project directory, Event Calendar, “News feed,” and a system for tracking media mentions. In order to direct visitors to the most important content, the IFC site uses a set of secondary “Portal” landing pages on topics like Education and Projects. With high-quality photographs, this site welcomes the user and provides high-quality content to keep them there.
